Ways to Donate

Leaving a gift to the American Red Cross for your County in your will is a special way to continue helping the Red Cross.

Some people choose to give a specific dollar amount or asset, while others give a percentage of the remainder of their estate. Bequests can also be made in memory of a person and the Red Cross can suggest ways to ensure proper recognition. There are also planned gift vehicles that will allow you to make a contribution that will provide income for life for you and/or a loved one.
.
If you are considering including the American Red Cross in Your County in your will, the following suggested language should be shared with your attorney:

"I give, devise and bequeath to the American Red Cross of Northwest Michigan 735 S. Garfield Ave. Suite B 100, Traverse City, MI 49686 the sum of $_______( or otherwise describe the gift or specify a percentage of the estate) to be used for its general purposes.

Donate by Telephone Call (231) 947-7286 and speak to an ARC staff person about your donation.

Tribute gifts can be made in memory of a friend or loved one, or for a special occasion, such as a birthday or an anniversary. Many people find great satisfaction in making a gift in memory of a friend or loved one. A tribute gift is also a great way to let someone know that you are thinking of him or her on a special day.

You will receive a letter of acknowledgment. For additional information, please contact the Office of Financial Development at (231) 947-7286.

While the Red Cross does not accept donations of food or clothing for victims of disaster because of the logistical difficulties of delivering such goods to those in need of assistance, we do accept gifts-in-kind that are appropriate to our mission.

Generally, these are large quantities of goods direct from a manufacturer, such as medications or blankets. For additional information, please contact the our office at (231) 947-7286.

GIVE BLOOD

Blood is needed for emergencies and for people who have cancer, blood disorders, sickle cell, anemia and other illnesses. Some people need regular blood transfusions to live.

Imagine if giving blood was part of everyone's life. Something you did on a regular basis, like eating at your favorite restaurant. What kind of difference would that make? For nearly 5 million people who receive blood transfusions every year, your donation can make the difference between life and death.

Consistent donations from new and regular blood donors are needed year-round to maintain a stable blood supply. A three-day supply is considered safe and adequate, with five to seven considered optimal for meeting emergency and disaster-related needs. In the past two years, the overall blood supply in Michigan has rarely edged above two days.
